Psoriasis Skin Care
That Works on the Surface —
Alongside Your Medical Care
Plaque psoriasis on the elbows, knees, lower back and torso is driven by an immune process that runs through the whole body. No topical reaches that — not a steroid, not coal tar, and not this. What a good routine can do is soften scale, support the barrier and make the skin more comfortable day to day. This 7-component plant-based system is built for that, without steroids, coal tar or a prescription.
See the Home Treatment → Or find a certified Kapyderm Treatment Center near you →Psoriasis affects an estimated 9 million Americans¹ — and for most of them the treatment story is the same: a corticosteroid cream that works until you stop using it, coal tar that smells and only does so much, or a biologic that means a prescription and injections. Those are real treatments and this page isn't arguing against them. The question this system answers is narrower and more honest: what can good skin care do for the surface while your doctor manages the disease?
Please read first. Psoriasis is a systemic immune-mediated disease and should be diagnosed and managed by a physician or dermatologist. This page is educational information about cosmetic skin care. It is not medical advice, and nothing here is intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. Individual results vary. Do not stop a prescribed treatment without speaking to whoever prescribed it.
Psoriasis is driven by an immune signalling loop that keeps operating between flares, even when skin looks clear. Topical treatment acts on what that loop produces at the surface — so when you stop, the loop is where it was. That isn't a treatment failure, it's a mismatch of scope. Only systemic medical treatment reaches the driver. Everything topical, including this system, works on the skin you can see — which is worth doing, and worth being clear about.
Why Topical Treatments Have a Ceiling
Corticosteroids suppress surface inflammation quickly and effectively while applied, but the underlying process continues. Coal tar slows cell turnover at the surface and is an established, FDA-monographed treatment — its real drawbacks are practical ones: odor, staining and poor long-term compliance.³ Biologics block the immune pathway directly and are genuinely the most effective option for moderate-to-severe disease, but they are specialist-managed injections. A botanical system that works on scale, the barrier and the skin microbiome sits alongside these — not above them.
Four Targets. One Routine.
The Kapyderm psoriasis routine is built around four things a topical routine can reasonably influence — the same architecture used across the Dermotricology systems, adapted for body skin.
Softening Thick Scale
Thick plaque physically blocks anything applied on top of it. KS115 softens and helps lift the scale first, so the rest of the routine can reach the skin. This is the step most over-the-counter approaches skip.
Skin Microbiome Support
The skin microbiome in psoriasis shows a distinct pattern compared with unaffected skin. Fungi-Activ is formulated to support microbial balance during the maintenance phase — cosmetic care, not an antimicrobial medicine.
Barrier and Hydrolipid Support
Psoriatic skin has a compromised barrier, and dryness makes plaques more uncomfortable and more prone to cracking. K1 and Special K Cream support the lipid layer — the least glamorous part of the routine and probably the most useful.
Botanical Supplements
Depure and Revital are oral botanical supplements supporting general balance and skin nutrition. They are supplements — not treatments for psoriasis, and not a substitute for systemic medical therapy, which is the only thing that reaches the immune driver.
The 7-Component System
Depure and Revital are dietary supplements. These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. These products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. Check with your physician before starting a supplement, particularly if pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking prescription medication — including biologics or other systemic psoriasis treatment. Patch-test topical products before wider use.
Two-Phase Routine
Because psoriasis relapses, expect to move between these phases over time rather than finishing. Stop and speak to your doctor if skin becomes painful, weeping or infected-looking, or if plaques spread rapidly.
How It Compares to Standard Options
| Treatment | Category | What it does | Considerations |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coal tar preparations | OTC drug | Slows cell turnover, reduces scaling. FDA-monographed as safe and effective at 0.5–5% | Strong odor, staining, poor long-term compliance. The EU separately bans coal tar in cosmetic products³ |
| Topical corticosteroids | Prescription / OTC drug | Surface anti-inflammatory — fast and effective while applied | Potency and duration need medical supervision; skin thinning with prolonged use; flare on stopping |
| Roflumilast cream | Prescription drug | Non-steroidal PDE-4 inhibitor; FDA-approved for plaque psoriasis since 2022 | Prescription only; topical, so like all topicals it does not reach the systemic driver |
| Biologics | Prescription injectable | Targeted immune therapy — the only category that acts on the systemic driver, and the most effective option for moderate-to-severe disease | Specialist-managed injection; significant cost; increased infection risk and TB screening required before starting⁴ |
| Kapyderm Psoriasis Home Treatment | Cosmetic skin care + supplements | Scale softening, skin microbiome and barrier support, plus botanical supplements | No steroids · No coal tar · No prescription. Not a drug, and no controlled trial of this system exists. |
This compares categories rather than brands. Everything above is an effective treatment in its place — the table is about scope and trade-offs, not a claim that they don't work. If your psoriasis is moderate-to-severe, a dermatologist has options here that no cosmetic routine can match.
Who This Is For
This routine suits people with mild to moderate plaque psoriasis on the body — elbows, knees, lower back, torso and other non-scalp sites — who want a non-pharmaceutical skin-care routine, and people already under medical treatment who want something steroid-free for daily surface care. It is not a substitute for medical management, and it is not intended for severe or extensive disease, which needs a dermatologist. It works across all skin tones: on darker skin, psoriasis often appears as purple, violet or dark brown patches rather than red, which is worth knowing because it is also a common reason psoriasis is missed or misdiagnosed in skin of color.
If your psoriasis is primarily on the scalp, the Scalp Psoriasis protocol uses a different component set (Dandruff & Dry Hair Cleanser + Ampoule N instead of Normalizing Base Cleanser) formulated for the scalp's sebum-rich, hair-bearing environment. Both routines share KS115, K1, Special K Cream, Depure and Revital.
